As an independently-owned business, we have the freedom to support causes we believe in and to impact the world in a positive way. With every purchase you make, we donate $1 to one of our nonprofit partners of your choice through our Better to Give program (at no cost to you).

While we’re grateful to have the freedom to support four nonprofit organizations that are doing such important work, we know that the key to truly making a difference through our Better to Give program is up to our customers.

Since we started Better to Give nearly 15 years ago, we have been humbled by the generosity of our customers who take the time to choose one of our partners at checkout and support a cause that is important to UncommonGoods. And throughout these 15 years, nothing has compared to the surge we have been seeing over the past few weeks.

As news coverage about sexual violence continues to make headlines, the rate of customers choosing RAINN, the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization, through Better to Give, has been unprecedented. And this response to RAINN is not exclusive to our customers. As RAINN says in one of their latest statements, “as more headlines continue to bubble to the surface, so do the stories: from friends, family, strangers, and celebrities–on Twitter, on television, and in family rooms across the country.” During the weekend of October 7 alone, RAINN reported that its National Sexual Assault Hotline had a 33 percent increase in online sessions over the previous weekend. During the entire month of October, usage for its National Sexual Assault Hotline was 24 percent higher than normal.

“The response to these stories has been incredible. We’re seeing more survivors turn to RAINN for support than ever before,” said Jodi Omear, RAINN’s vice president for communications. “Our goal right now is to support and sustain the hotline–to make sure that when a survivor needs help, we’re here for them. Working with UncommonGoods, through the Better to Give program, helps raise critical funds to support the National Sexual Assault Hotline.”

All month long, we are highlighting each of our Better to Give partners every Tuesday leading up to Giving Tuesday on November 29. We are kicking off the month by honoring RAINN. For all customers who choose RAINN at checkout today, November 1, we will be donating an extra 15 percent to RAINN in celebration of 15 years of our Better to Give program.

In addition to doubling donations for all of our partners on Giving Tuesday and promoting a special social media giveaway (more details coming soon!), we will also offer extra donations to the partner who receives the most response on social media on their designated Tuesday. This partner will receive an extra $1 for every reaction, comment, and share from our posts on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram promoted during their Tuesday (up to $500).
